Pushups

Exercise Summary

Drop and give me 20!

We’ve all seen it in the movies.  (If you were in the military at any point in time, it was probably said to you!)

Pushups are anything but a punishment.  They are a phenomenal exercise that can be performed anywhere, at anytime, without any equipment.

Pushups can be modified to fit any fitness goal: strength, hypertrophy, power, and endurance.

In order to perform pushups correctly:

  1. Start in a high plank (pushup position)

  2. Hands should be under your shoulder and slightly wider than shoulder width apart

  3. Your head, shoulders, and butt should be in a straight line

  4. Engage your core and your glutes throughout the entire exercise

  5. Descend in a controlled manner towards the floor until your chest is about 3 inches off of the floor

  6. Make sure to keep your elbows at about a 45 degree angle (not too close to your body and not too far away)

  7. Return to the starting position by “pushing the floor away” and locking your elbows out at the top
