Technique Tip: Kettlebell Swing (Hike)

Technique Tip:  Kettlebell Swing (Hike)

Next to getting your feet set-up correctly, the ‘Hike’ of a kettlebell swing is crucial to executing a kettlebell swing correctly.

When starting kettlebell swings, make sure to start with strong shoulder action in order to ‘hike’ the kettlebell back behind your hips.

You’ll know when you are hiking the kettlebell back far enough when your wrists are on your inner thighs.

Another way to think about it is to put your “Thumb to your bum!!”  😉

A drill that you can do in order to make sure that you’re taking the kettlebell back far enough is to have a friend hold a notebook or clipboard about 4 inches behind your butt.  If you hit the notebook or clipboard with your butt, you know that you’re ‘hiking’ the kettlebell all the way back.
